End Point Assessment (EPA)

Following the government’s report, ‘The Future of Apprenticeships in England’, the design and delivery of apprenticeships was changed. A number of industry-led groups, entitled Trailblazers, were formed to develop apprenticeship standards and assessment plans in order to meet the requirements of employers and their customers.

The assessment of apprentices is carried out by an End Point Assessment Organisation (EPAO), of which TWI Certification Ltd is one. The end point assessment is the final synoptic assessment of an apprentice to ensure that they have the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for their job role, and includes performance-led development goals but is separate to any qualifications or assessments taken during the apprenticeship itself.

An accurate assessment needs to be completed by experienced field assessors, who have the expertise to advise and steer candidates through the EPA, in turn making sure that newly qualified staff have the necessary skills and competence related to industry standards.

TWI Certification Ltd is a world leader in personnel competence assurance certification in accordance with strict criteria established by the certification management board, which is made up of representatives from industry and other relevant stakeholders. An EPA conducted by TWI Certification Ltd, ensures that the qualifying apprentice has the knowledge, skill and behavioural requirements set out in the apprenticeship standard.

Currently, TWI Certification Ltd offers EPA for five different apprenticeships:

CSWIP Certification only:

  • General Welder Level 2
  • General Welder Level 3
  • NDT Operator
  • NDT Technician

CSWIP-PCN Certification:

  • Nuclear Welding Inspection Technician (NWIT)
