TWI CL was a Recognised Third Party Organisation (RTPO) for the approval of operators, procedures and NDT inspectors for permanent joints in accordance with the Pressure Equipment Directive, (2014/68/EU). With the UKs withdrawal from the EU on 01 January 2021, TWI CL is no longer able to act as an RTPO under European Law. However we will continue to provide certification in the UK (excluding Northern Ireland, further details below) in compliance with UK Law.
As of 01 January 2021 TWI CL is a recognised Conformity Assessment Body and a Recognised Third Party Organisation (RTPO) under the Pressure Equipment Safety Regulations 2016 in the UK. So while, TWI CL can no longer provide the approval of operators, procedures and NDT inspectors for permanent joints in accordance with the Pressure Equipment Directive, (2014/68/EU), it can do so for those customers who require it in the UK only.
For confirmation:
- Current certificate holders operating in the UK only – your certificate is still valid and recognised by the UK, you do not need to do anything
- Current certificate holders who wish to operate in Europe – if your certificate was received prior 01 Jan 21, you should meet the EU PED (2014/68/EU) requirements. Any certificates issued after 01 Jan 21 will not be accepted within the EU.
- Current certificate holders who wish to work in Northern Ireland, can have a certificate issued by TWI CL in accordance with the EU PED (2014/68/EU).
Please Note: This change in legislation does not affect any other CSWIP or BGAS-CSWIP certificates. TWI CL is still a UKAS accredited to BS EN ISO/IEC 17024 Certification Body, and only welding operators, procedures or NDT Inspectors, that specifically requested compliance with the EU PED (2014/68/EU) are affected.
TWI CL is currently in discussions with European RTPO’s to put in place a mutual recognition agreement, whereby TWI CL will be able to offer EU and UK approvals to its clients.
